India / West Bengal :

The Congress party has decided to lift the suspension of its three Jharkhand MLAs, who were allegedly caught with a substantial amount of cash in West Bengal's Howrah district last year. The three MLAs under suspension are Jamtara MLA Irfan Ansari, Khijri legislator Rajesh Kachchap, and Kolebira MLA Naman Bixal. The suspension had been in effect since July of the previous year following their arrest in a cash haul case.

Jharkhand Congress President Rajesh Thakur, speaking to reporters at the Assembly premises, stated, "On the direction of party's Jharkhand in-charge Avinash Pandey, the suspension of three MLAs has been revoked with immediate effect. Party has issued a letter in this regard."

The suspension order was initially issued against the three MLAs on July 31, 2022, after they were arrested in connection with a cash haul case. On July 30, 2022, their vehicle was intercepted by the police on National Highway 16 at Panchla in West Bengal's Howrah district, and a significant sum of ₹49 lakh in cash was found in the car.

Following the incident, the Congress party had accused the BJP of attempting to topple its coalition government in Jharkhand. Congress MLA Kumar Jaimangal Singh, also known as Anup Singh, had filed a complaint with Ranchi's Argora police station, alleging that the three legislators had offered him ₹10 crore and a ministerial berth in exchange for toppling the JMM-led government in Jharkhand.

Additionally, the Congress party had urged the Speaker to disqualify the three MLAs due to the allegations and the cash haul case.

Regarding the Congress' application to the Speaker against the three MLAs, Rajesh Thakur stated, "The party will discuss the issue and take a decision accordingly."

MLA Irfan Ansari expressed relief at the lifting of the suspension, saying, "Their issue was aggravated due to some misunderstanding. Now, all things have been settled, and I am back in Congress."

It's worth noting that Assembly elections in Jharkhand are scheduled for next year, adding further significance to the developments surrounding the reinstatement of the three MLAs.
