India / New Delhi :

The Rajya Sabha witnessed heated exchanges between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was allegedly obstructed from delivering a speech following External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's statement on India's foreign policy. The developments unfolded during a crucial debate on India's international relations.

In his address to the House, Jaishankar highlighted India's prioritized engagements with its neighboring countries and underlined the significant progress achieved in bilateral relations during Prime Minister Modi's tenure. However, the Opposition's disruption during his speech sparked tensions, prompting Jaishankar to express his dismay over the lack of respect for India's national interests.

Addressing the disruption, Jaishankar questioned, "If you claim to be 'INDIA,' but if you are not prepared to listen to India's national interests, then what kind of India are you?" He further lamented the disregard shown towards key dignitaries, including the President, Vice President, and Prime Minister, along with the obstruction faced by the External Affairs Minister while attempting to make a statement in Parliament.

The term 'INDIA' mentioned by Jaishankar stands for "Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance" and represents a coalition of 26 opposition parties united in their purpose. However, the Opposition's recent actions have drawn criticism from the ruling party.

Leader of the House, Piyush Goyal, took a swipe at the Opposition's stance and stated, "It is very unfortunate that the Opposition is politicizing India's foreign policy. The Opposition's inability to comprehend India's progress on a global level, as presented by the foreign minister, is regrettable."

Earlier in the day, members of the INDIA alliance arrived at the Parliament wearing black clothes as a symbolic protest against the ongoing Manipur violence. The issue has been a major point of contention, leading to a continuous logjam in both Houses since the commencement of the monsoon session.

As the political atmosphere remains charged, the nation awaits further developments in the Rajya Sabha. The clash between the Congress and the BJP over parliamentary conduct and India's foreign policy has drawn attention from citizens and political observers alike.
