Ajit Pawar | Deputy Chief Minister Maharastra
Maharastra / Pune :
In a resolute declaration, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has reaffirmed the unbroken ties between himself and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar. Speaking at a public gathering in Pune's Shirur district, Ajit Pawar addressed recent political speculations about their relationship, dispelling doubts about their unity.
The statement came in the aftermath of an appearance by both Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar at an award ceremony in Pune, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was bestowed with the Lokmanya Tilak Award. Despite apparent discomfort within the opposition coalition and calls for Ajit Pawar to abstain from attending, both leaders participated in the event.
During his speech, Ajit Pawar reminisced about past electoral collaborations, stating, "I remember during an election, Popatrao (Pawar) was Saheb’s (Sharad Pawar) candidate and Baburao (Pacharne) was my candidate. That does not mean we were separated. We were not separated then and not even today." He further reassured the audience, asserting, "There is no need to worry about it," while acknowledging applause from the attendees.
Ajit Pawar, when approached by members of the media for further clarification, underscored the enduring familial bonds that transcend their political differences. "Family is family. When my aunt (Sharad Pawar’s wife Pratibha) underwent surgery, I had gone to meet her. Our political stand can be different, but communication within the family is a separate thing," he explained, highlighting the distinction between personal relationships and political stances.
This assertion arrives after recent political upheavals, including Ajit Pawar's departure from the NCP and subsequent interactions with his uncle Sharad Pawar. While Ajit's faction has aligned with the Shiv Sena-BJP government and laid claim to the NCP's name and symbol before the election commission, the rhetoric from both sides has remained notably restrained. Despite the significant political differences, senior leaders from both factions continue to maintain amiable interactions within the state Assembly.
Notably, Ajit Pawar, in his role as the finance minister, has even allocated funds to NCP loyalists who remain aligned with Sharad Pawar. This pragmatic approach and the absence of public criticisms suggest a conscious effort to maintain unity and minimize division within the party.
Senior Congress leader and former chief minister Ashok Chavan acknowledged the complexity of the situation, emphasizing the need for clarity. "When the opposition has formed a coalition named INDIA, such an incident creates confusion and speculation. It would be much better if Pawar saheb clears his stand," Chavan stated, reflecting the broader call for transparency and understanding in the face of evolving political dynamics.
