Leader of Opposition in the Kerala state assembly, V D Satheesan, announced on Wednesday that the Congress Party would contest 16 seats in Kerala in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The allocation of seats within the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) has been finalized, he confirmed.

As per the allocation, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), the second-largest coalition partner in the UDF, will contest in two seats, maintaining a similar pattern to previous elections. Additionally, the Kerala Congress (Jacob) [KCJ] will contest in one seat, and the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) will contest in another.

The IUML leadership had recently expressed a desire for an additional Lok Sabha seat but Satheesan indicated that discussions had resolved any issues regarding seat allocation. He hinted that instead of an additional Lok Sabha seat, the IUML might be allotted a Rajya Sabha seat.

This decision comes as part of the broader strategy to finalize UDF's representation in the Lok Sabha elections, ensuring a cohesive approach within the coalition.
