India / Manipur :
Union Minister Anurag Thakur has criticized the visit of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc's members of Parliament to Manipur, labeling it as a mere theatrical performance. He alleged that during the opposition's regime, ministers turned a blind eye to Manipur's troubles when the state was grappling with unrest and facing six months of lockdown.
Redirecting the attention to another sensitive issue, Thakur raised concerns about women's safety in West Bengal. He specifically asked Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a senior Congress leader and member of the Manipur delegation, whether he would also invite the INDIA bloc MPs to his state to witness the alleged atrocities against women.
Thakur further highlighted reports of crimes against women in Rajasthan and criticized the opposition for not visiting the state to assess the situation there. He questioned whether the INDIA alliance would extend their visit to Rajasthan as well.
The INDIA bloc, consisting of 21 opposition MPs, embarked on a two-day visit to Manipur to assess the ground situation and provide recommendations to the government and Parliament. The primary aim of the visit is to address and find solutions to the ethnic conflict that has deeply affected the northeastern state since May 3.
The visit to Manipur has triggered a political exchange, with Thakur expressing doubts about the sincerity of the delegation's intentions while also emphasizing pressing issues in West Bengal and Rajasthan. The trip to Manipur remains pivotal in the ongoing efforts to resolve the state's long-standing conflicts and bring about a positive change in the region.
