Tripura Chief Minister Announces Rs 100 Crore Package for Surrendered NLFT Militants

India / Tripura :

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has disclosed that the central government has allocated a Rs 100 crore package for former militants of the Nationalist Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), who have surrendered to join mainstream society. The initiative falls under the Special Economic Development Package aimed at indigenous people in Tripura.

Speaking at a public meeting held in Gabordi village in the West Tripura district, Saha underscored the importance of providing support and rehabilitation opportunities to individuals who have renounced violence. He expressed satisfaction that former NLFT members have chosen the path of peace and are integrating into mainstream life.

Saha praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a decisive leader capable of addressing various challenges. He highlighted the numerous accords signed under Modi's leadership since 2014, aimed at fostering peace and stability in the North East region. Saha specifically mentioned the recent agreement with the Tipra Motha Party, which recently joined the ruling coalition.

The Chief Minister cited the quadripartite agreement resolving the Bru migrant issue as evidence of the government's commitment to resolving complex issues. He revealed that Rs 600 crore is being allocated for the Bru accord, ensuring the resettlement and provision of basic amenities for displaced Bru migrants in Tripura.

Saha criticized the previous Left government for its failure to address the plight of displaced Bru migrants and lauded the BJP government for extending support and granting them permanent residency in Tripura. He emphasized that the government is committed to providing essential services and facilities to the resettled Bru communities.

Highlighting the recognition of tribal communities under the BJP-led government, Saha mentioned the accolades received by Tripura residents, including Padma awards and the posthumous Padma Shri conferred on IPFT leader NC Debbarma. He also mentioned initiatives such as the establishment of hostels and financial support for tribal students' education.

In conclusion, Saha reiterated the government's dedication to the welfare and development of indigenous communities in Tripura, emphasizing peace-building efforts and inclusive policies under Prime Minister Modi's leadership.
