India / Tamil Nadu :
E. Swami Das, the state Christian cell president of Telugu Desam, raised concerns about the YSRC government's failure to honor its commitments to Christians in the state. Accusing the government of neglecting promises made before the 2019 polls, he expressed disappointment over unfulfilled assurances.
"It appears that the state government had forgotten its commitments made to Christians before the 2019 polls," remarked Swami Das, highlighting a perceived lack of follow-through on the part of the YSRC administration.
Swami Das further alleged that the YSRC government had pledged to surpass schemes initiated by the previous Telugu Desam government led by Chandrababu Naidu for the benefit of Christians. However, he asserted that these assurances had not materialized under the current regime.
Telugu Desam, he declared, would prioritize addressing the concerns of Christians if it emerges victorious in the upcoming elections and assumes power. Among the promises outlined are the provision of identity cards and insurance facilities for existing pastors, recognition of the Christian Corporation as a special entity, and the construction of burial grounds at various levels, from villages to constituencies. Additionally, support for the construction of churches and community halls, along with training for newly qualified pastors, are included in the proposed initiatives.
Leaders from the Christian minority at both the state and district levels participated in a meeting where these grievances and promises were discussed, reflecting a unified effort to advocate for the interests of the community. Telugu Desam's stance underscores its commitment to addressing the concerns of Christians and ensuring their welfare if entrusted with governance.
