India / New Delhi :
In a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader rahul-gandhi" target="_blank">Rahul Gandhi criticized the government's response to the escalating violence in Manipur. Accusing Modi of neglecting the northeastern state, Gandhi claimed that the Prime Minister's ideology was responsible for the turmoil in Manipur. He further asserted that Modi is the leader of a select few and does not empathize with the suffering of Manipuri women.
In a video message shared by the Congress party, rahul-gandhi" target="_blank">Rahul Gandhi expressed his dismay at the Prime Minister's silence on the unfolding crisis in Manipur. He questioned why Modi had not visited Imphal and spoken about the situation when the state was engulfed in turmoil. Gandhi attributed the Prime Minister's indifference to his affiliation with the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and his lack of concern for Manipur.
According to Gandhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is solely focused on attaining and retaining power, even if it means disregarding the welfare of the country and its citizens. He accused the party of being willing to sacrifice the well-being of Manipur and the entire nation in pursuit of political gains.
The situation in Manipur took a significant turn when a video surfaced online on July 19, showing three women being stripped naked and paraded. In response, the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), led by the Congress-led opposition, demanded a statement from Prime Minister Modi in Parliament, followed by a discussion on the issue. While Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed the government's readiness to provide a statement, he referred to the demand for a statement by the Prime Minister as a "caveat for disruptions."
Seeking to hold the government accountable for the ongoing violence in Manipur, the opposition grouping, including the newly constituted INDIA, moved a no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha. The motion aims to corner the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and compel the Prime Minister to address the situation.
On Wednesday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accepted a notice for the no-confidence motion submitted by Congress lawmaker Gaurav Gogoi. This sets the stage for a heated parliamentary battle between the NDA and the opposition over the handling of the Manipur crisis.
