Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his vow that Israel would hunt down and punish anyone who hurts a hostage but added a new promise: Israel will give a generous reward to anyone who returns a captive by paying $5 million and providing safe passage out of Gaza
"I want to say to those holding our hostages: Whoever dares to harm our hostages will pay the price. We will pursue you and we will find you," Netanyahu told Israeli troops on a visit to the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu's comments confirmed Israeli media reports two weeks ago that the govt would offer a reward for freed hostages. It was not clear if the prize would apply to returning the body of a
Netanyahu insisted Tuesday that Hamas would no longer rule Gaza saying Israel was making progress toward this goal. He also vowed that Israel would bring back the captives whether or not Hamas members opt for the reward he offered.
Hamas' acting Gaza chief Khalil al-Hayya said there would be no hostages-for-prisoners swap deal with Israel unless the war in Gaza ended.
