India / Karnataka :

The Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former Prime Minister, HD Deve Gowda, has firmly stated that his party will not form an electoral alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the forthcoming 2024 Lok Sabha election. Addressing the media in a press conference, Deve Gowda made it clear that JD(S) would contest the election independently, without seeking support from any other political entity.

"JDS will never sink...We will fight for parliament elections independently and will not take any help from any party. Let me be very clear. There is no question of aligning with anybody; we will fight the battle independently on our own," Deve Gowda asserted.

The JD(S) chief's declaration comes in the wake of recent speculations about potential alliances and collaborations between political parties ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Just last week, HD Kumaraswamy, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka and Deve Gowda's son, had indicated that his party might consider working with the BJP against the Congress government in the state. However, Deve Gowda's latest statement puts an end to any such possibilities.

In a related development, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has alleged that leaders from both the BJP and JD(S) are allegedly planning to destabilize the Congress government in the state. He claimed that representatives of both parties had traveled to Singapore to discuss their plan.

BJP and JD(S) leaders are trying to enter into a pact. They could not have a meeting in Bengaluru or in New Delhi and have now booked tickets to Singapore. Our enemies have become friends. I have information on people who have flown out (to Singapore) only to hatch a plan to destabilize the Congress government in Karnataka," said DK Shivakumar.

Adding to the intrigue, HD Kumaraswamy reportedly flew to Singapore on Sunday for unknown reasons after a press conference with the former State Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

As the political landscape in Karnataka and the country continues to evolve, Deve Gowda's decision to steer clear of any alliance with the NDA and BJP for the 2024 Lok Sabha election is likely to shape the dynamics and strategies of other parties in the state and on the national stage.
