India / New Delhi :

The Election Commission on Monday censured BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and Congress' Supriya Shrinate for derogatory remarks against the dignity of women. The Commission stated that it is convinced that their comments constituted a low-level personal attack, thereby violating the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct.

As a consequence, both Ghosh and Shrinate have been warned to exercise caution in their public utterances during the Model Code of Conduct period. Furthermore, the Election Commission announced that their election-related communications would be specially and additionally monitored from Monday onwards.

In addition to issuing the warning notice or censure, copies are also being sent to their respective party chiefs. This action aims to sensitize their functionaries to be careful while communicating in the public domain and to refrain from making any derogatory comments or violating model code guidelines.

Supriya Shrinate faced controversy over a comment posted on social media platforms against Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, who has been fielded by the BJP as its candidate from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Following a public outcry, Shrinate removed the controversial remarks from all her social accounts, claiming that they were not posted by her but by someone else who had access to her accounts.

Dilip Ghosh, on the other hand, was captured on video mocking Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee's family background. He later apologized for his contentious remarks against the West Bengal Chief Minister.
