Constitution Day: No Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha sessions on December 26

NEW DELHI: The ministry of parliamentary affairs has announced that both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will not convene on December 26 to observe Constitution Day.

The Parliament's winter session is scheduled to begin on November 25 and conclude on December 20 subject to government business requirements.

The all-party discussion is scheduled for November 24 at 11 a.m. in the Parliament house annexe's main committee room in New Delhi with defence minister Rajnath Singh presiding.

The government plans to advance the Waqf Amendment Bill, currently under review by the Joint Parliamentary Committee during this session. Additionally the One Nation One Election bill could be introduced.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the Waqf Amendment Bills 2024 continues to conduct meetings across various states engaging with different stakeholders to address concerns and build consensus on this contested legislation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently stressed his administration's commitment to implementing 'One Nation One Election' aiming for concurrent elections for Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

In response Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge rejected the feasibility of this concept.

In his statement to reporters Kharge said: "What PM Modi has said he will not do it because when it comes to the parliament he has to take everybody into confidence then only this will happen.
