Madhya Pradesh / Bhopal :

In a targeted move, the Congress party has unveiled a document labeled as the 'Ghotala Sheet,' which meticulously outlines a series of alleged scams that unfolded during the 18-year tenure of the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh. This release comes as the state gears up for impending assembly elections by the year-end.

State Congress chief Kamal Nath, a former chief minister himself, presented the Ghotala Sheet during a press conference, shedding light on what he referred to as a plethora of scandals that marred the BJP's administration in Madhya Pradesh. Nath used this opportunity to metaphorically suggest that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's image could soon be synonymous with the term "scam" when searched on Google. Highlighting the severity of the issue, Nath asserted that the BJP government had set a record with an extensive range of alleged scams, characterizing the state as a "Ghotala state" due to what he termed the "50 percent commission raaj."

In response to queries about the Congress's lack of action on these alleged scams during its own time in power from 2018 to 2020, Nath employed a witty remark. He stated, "I am not a 2018 model. Now I am a 2023 model." Nath elucidated that the limited duration of his leadership, coupled with disruptions caused by the model code of conduct due to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, had hindered substantial investigative efforts. Nath expressed that his primary focus during his tenure was to establish Madhya Pradesh as an attractive investment destination.

The Ghotala Sheet, prominently presented by the Congress, catalogued a staggering 254 alleged scams. Among the listed scandals were the infamous Vyapam scam (valued at ₹2,000 crore), illegal mining (estimated at ₹50,000 crore), e-tender scam (amounting to ₹3,000 crore), RTO scam (approximated at ₹25,000 crore), liquor scam (reaching ₹86,000 crore), Mahakal Lok (₹100 crore), and the electricity scam (totaling ₹94,000 crore).

The leaflet bore the tagline "Ghotala hi Ghotala, Ghotala Seth – 50 per cent Commission Rate." Additionally, the Congress party launched a public engagement initiative, urging citizens to show support against corruption by giving a missed call to a designated phone number.

In response, Madhya Pradesh BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma retorted by dubbing Kamal Nath as "Corruption Nath." Sharma disputed Nath's characterization, asserting that the issues associated with Nath revolved around the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and other matters, rather than the purported 2023 model that Nath claims to represent. Sharma further pointed out that the leaflet lacked proper credit attribution.

As the political climate heats up in anticipation of the impending assembly elections, the release of the Ghotala Sheet underscores Congress's efforts to sway public opinion by drawing attention to alleged corruption scandals under the BJP government's watch.
