The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, featuring 195 nominees. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to contest from Varanasi again, while several prominent leaders, including ministers and former chief ministers, are also part of the list.
Key Highlights:
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will contest Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi.
- The list includes 34 candidates who are ministers from the Centre and states, along with two former chief ministers.
- Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiran Rijiju will contest from Arunachal West, while Home Minister Amit Shah will contest from Gandhinagar.

- Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of late leader Sushma Swaraj, has been fielded from New Delhi.
- Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will contest from Vidisha, and BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia will contest from Guna.
- BJP leader Manoj Tiwari will contest from North-East Delhi, and Kamaljeet Sehrawat will contest from West Delhi.
- Pragya Singh Thakur has been dropped from the candidate list.
The announcement of the candidate list follows a marathon meeting of the central election committee (CEC) of the BJP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP's National President JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other key leaders were present at the meeting.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, PM Modi secured a victory in Varanasi with 6,74,664 votes against Congress's Ajay Rai. The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in April-May this year.
