India / Andhra Pradesh :

In a significant development ahead of the upcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reached an electoral agreement with Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena and Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The agreement, finalized after lengthy negotiations between the parties, aims to consolidate their electoral prospects in the state.

According to a report in India Today, the agreement was reached late on Friday night, with the BJP and Jana Sena expected to contest nearly eight out of the 24 Lok Sabha seats available in Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, sources suggest that both parties are likely to receive between 28 and 32 seats each in the Andhra Pradesh assembly, while the remaining seats will be allocated to the TDP.

The seat-sharing arrangement reportedly includes the BJP contesting in key Lok Sabha constituencies such as Araku, Hindupur, Tirupati, Rajampet, Rajahmundry, Narasapuram, and Visakhapatnam. The TDP has already allocated four seats to the BJP in the initial discussions, including Tirupati, Araku, Rajahmundry, and Rajampet.

K Ravindra Kumar, a TDP MP, confirmed the electoral alliance, stating, "TDP will become part of NDA. Right now, seat sharing and other modalities are being worked out." He also mentioned that TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu had already met with Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the alliance, with further discussions scheduled.

The TDP has received an invitation from the BJP to rejoin the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), signaling a potential realignment of political forces in the region. After severing ties with the NDA in 2018, the TDP's potential return could reshape the political landscape in Andhra Pradesh.

Both the TDP and Jana Sena have announced their intention to share seats in advance of the elections. The TDP has reserved 24 assembly seats for the Jana Sena out of the total 175 seats, while the Jana Sena has unveiled its list of five candidates. Additionally, the TDP has released its initial list of 94 candidates for the upcoming polls.

The electoral alliance between the BJP, Jana Sena, and TDP underscores the strategic importance of coalition-building in the fiercely contested political landscape of Andhra Pradesh. With the elections approaching, all eyes will be on how this alliance shapes the electoral dynamics and political outcomes in the state.
