Tariq Mansoor as Vice Presidents New BJP Vice Presidents

India / New Delhi :

In a significant reshuffle of its leadership, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appointed Anil Antony and Tariq Mansoor as Vice Presidents on Saturday. The former Telangana state unit president, Bandi Sanjay, has been named the new national general secretary, alongside Radha Mohan Agarwal, a lawmaker from Uttar Pradesh.

The appointment of Anil Antony, son of senior Congress leader AK Antony, and former AMU vice-chancellor Tariq Mansoor comes as a noteworthy development in the party's strategy. This move also signals the BJP's attempts to reach out to Pasmanda Muslims in Uttar Pradesh.

Anil Antony had previously resigned from all party posts in the Congress, citing "growing intolerance and sycophancy in the organization." He had joined the BJP in April of this year, expressing his dissent against the Congress party over certain issues.

Tariq Mansoor had stepped down as Aligarh Muslim University's (AMU) vice-chancellor when he was nominated as a member of the UP Legislative Council. His nomination as Vice President of the BJP highlights the party's outreach efforts in Uttar Pradesh.

Notably, the list of office-bearers includes 13 vice-presidents, nine general secretaries, and 13 secretaries. BL Santhosh retains his position as the national general secretary, while Shiv Prakash remains the joint general secretary.

Several leaders, such as CT Ravi, Dilip Saikia, and Dilip Ghosh, have been dropped from their roles as general secretaries. Reports suggest that they may be contesting in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

As the BJP undergoes these leadership changes and realigns its structure, it aims to strengthen its position and consolidate support ahead of the crucial 2024 elections.
