Carpenter Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Rape of Minor, Victim Awarded Compensation
Uppununthala Harish, a 22-year-old carpenter, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a fast track court for the rape of a minor. The incident, which occurred in 2016, led to Harish's arrest after the victim's family reported the crime to the Saroornagar police. Harish, a resident of Karmanghat, was convicted of rape and other charges, resulting in a life sentence and a fine of Rs 55,000. Additionally, the court awarded Rs 10 lakh compensation to the victim. Following the conviction, Harish was taken into custody by the Saroornagar police and escorted to Charlapalli Central Prison.

Man Arrested for Allegedly Raping and Torturing Woman Friend in Delhi
A 28-year-old man from Uttarakhand, identified as Paras, has been apprehended by the police for allegedly raping and torturing a woman friend from West Bengal's Darjeeling. The victim, who had befriended the accused over the phone, was subjected to a week-long ordeal of physical and sexual assault, including being thrashed and burnt with hot lentils. Paras, who worked as a cook, faces charges of rape, sodomy, and causing hurt. The incident came to light when the victim was rescued by the police following a PCR call reporting domestic violence. She was hospitalized with multiple injuries and has since been discharged. The police have initiated further investigation into the matter.
