Asif Ali Zardari Elected as President of Pakistan for Second Term
Asif Ali Zardari, co-chairperson of the Pakistan Peoples Party, has been overwhelmingly elected as the 14th President of Pakistan, making history as the only civilian president to serve two terms in the country. Backed by the ruling alliance of the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Zardari secured victory over his opponent Mahmood Khan Achakzai. The election results, announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan, saw Zardari receive 255 votes compared to Achakzai's 119 votes.
