Opposition to Bring No-Confidence Motion to Compel PM Modi's Statement on Manipur Situation
Congress MP Manish Tewari stated in an interview that the united Opposition had no choice but to bring a no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha to compel Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the situation in Manipur. PM Modi's brief remarks on Manipur before the Monsoon Session prompted the Opposition's move. The Congress clarified that the motion is not about numbers but to pressure PM Modi for a statement on Manipur in Parliament. Tewari compared the potential repetition of history to a farce. He emphasized that a no-confidence motion should take priority, and bills passed afterward might be constitutionally suspect. The government's response to the situation in Manipur was deemed reprehensible, and PM Modi's silence on the matter in Parliament was criticized.

Opposition's Demand for PM's Statement on Manipur Triggers Chaos in Parliament's Monsoon Session
The third day of Parliament's monsoon session was marked by chaos and repeated disruptions as the opposition insisted on a discussion regarding the Manipur issue. The contentious matter revolved around a viral video depicting violence in Manipur, prompting opposition parties to call for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the incident. Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his readiness for a discussion to shed light on the sensitive matter. However, the situation escalated when AAP MP Sanjay Singh was suspended from Rajya Sabha for obstructing proceedings, leading to other opposition parties walking out of a committee meeting. Despite the turmoil, several bills were introduced in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, adding to the session's tumultuous atmosphere.
