Carpenter Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Rape of Minor, Victim Awarded Compensation

Uppununthala Harish, a 22-year-old carpenter, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a fast track court for the rape of a minor. The incident, which occurred in 2016, led to Harish's arrest after the victim's family reported the crime to the Saroornagar police. Harish, a resident of Karmanghat, was convicted of rape and other charges, resulting in a life sentence and a fine of Rs 55,000. Additionally, the court awarded Rs 10 lakh compensation to the victim. Following the conviction, Harish was taken into custody by the Saroornagar police and escorted to Charlapalli Central Prison.
