India's Computing Infrastructure Hinders Research Contribution: NVIDIA Official

Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director of NVIDIA Asia South, highlighted India's limited computing infrastructure, constituting less than 2% of global capacity, as a key obstacle to its research contribution, which stands at only 2%. Dhupar emphasized the correlation between infrastructure availability and research output, noting that Indians abroad contribute significantly more due to better infrastructure. He underscored the growing demand for GPU-based servers in AI development, with NVIDIA dominating the market. The Indian government's approval of the India AI Mission with a ₹10,372 crore outlay aims to address this gap by providing supercomputing capacity and fostering an AI ecosystem. Collaboration with Indian companies like Yotta Data Services to deploy GPU-based servers signals progress in infrastructure development.
