The White House and the Biden administration are actively working to thwart and disrupt attacks on Indian and Indian American students in the United States, announced John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council.
In response to recent incidents of violence against Indian students, Kirby emphasized the administration's commitment to preventing such attacks, stating, "There is no excuse for violence, certainly based on race or gender or religion or any other factor. That's just unacceptable here in the United States."
Kirby reiterated that President Biden and his administration are working diligently to collaborate with state and local authorities to prevent and deter these attacks. He emphasized that those responsible for such violence will be held accountable.
Recent incidents include the tragic deaths of several Indian and Indian American students, including Vivek Saini in Lithonia, Georgia, and Syed Mazahir Ali at Indiana Wesleyan University. Additionally, deaths attributed to heavy drinking and exposure to low temperatures have occurred, raising concerns about student safety.
Ajay Jain Bhutoria, a prominent Indian American community leader, expressed deep concern over these incidents and stressed the urgent need for enhanced safety measures for Indian students in the US. He called for swift action from college authorities and local law enforcement to address these challenges and ensure the well-being of students.
Bhutoria highlighted the shared concerns of parents and families in India and emphasized the importance of addressing safety issues to maintain the trust and confidence of Indian students studying in the US. He called for unity within the Indian American community to advocate for improved safety measures and support systems for students.
