Framer Protest on Delhi Haryana Border
India / New Delhi :
Security measures have been heightened as protesting farmers seek to march to Delhi, with personnel deployed in large numbers and barricades regulating movement at border points with Haryana. The "Delhi Chalo" agitation, spearheaded by farmer organizations, aims to press the government for their demands, including a law on minimum support price for crops and loan waivers.
At Singhu and Tikri borders, traffic movement has been suspended, and multiple layers of barricades, concrete blocks, iron nails, and container walls have been installed. Security personnel in anti-riot gear are deployed, and drones are being used to monitor the situation.
While the security arrangements are intended to maintain law and order, commuters may face difficulties in reaching their destinations due to traffic disruptions and tightened security at border points. Metro commuters in Central Delhi also encountered challenges, with some station gates closed till the evening.
The Red Fort complex was temporarily closed for visitors as a precautionary measure. The Delhi Police has issued prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), prohibiting assemblies, processions, and the entry of tractor-trolleys ferrying people.
The current agitation echoes the protests of 2020, when farmers staged a sit-in at Singhu, Ghazipur, and Tikri borders for several months. Police are on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents and to ensure the safety and security of all citizens amidst the ongoing protests.
