Bicholim:Negotiations between Piligao villagers, farmers and Vedanta Sesa Goa management failed on Thursday after three hours of talks over the issue of or
The villagers said ore trucks would not be allowed through their village unless their demands were met. The discussion was scheduled as they blocked the road on Wednesday.
Vedanta Sesa Goa in its statement said the ore transportation follows all regulations set by the directorate of mines and geology.
We comply with dust control measures on the transport route and monitor air quality to minimise environmental impact. The safety of our stakeholders and the community is our priority.
After the talks failed sarpanch Mohini Jalmi and panchayat members Ujwala Betkikar and Swapnil Phadte told reporters about their stand.
The mining company refused to meet our demands for one-time compensation for farmers and reinstatement of expelled workers said Phadte.
“Mining soil deposits have ruined our farms making them unfit for cultivation. We wanted the waste mud to be cleared,” he said.
Later villagers and sarpanch informed the deputy collector that the mining company must implement measures to control dust pollution from ore transportation.
