A large protest erupted in Imphal Valley on Saturday after the discovery of three bodies in Manipur's Jiribam district. The bodies were identified as those of a woman and two children.
The incident has sparked concerns that the victims might be among the six missing residents of a displacement camp.
This camp is located near the site where security forces recently killed 10 Hmar militants on November 11 adding to the tensions in the conflict-ridden region.
Protesters blocked major roads in the Kwakeithel area and Sagolband Tera in Imphal West district by burning tyres to disrupt vehicular movement.
At Khwairamband market, Manipur's main marketplace women vendors held a protest rally against the killings while heavy security forces were deployed in Imphal police said.
According to reports shops and markets were closed across the area.
Residents also took to the streets in Ningthoukhong Bishnupur district and Lamlong Imphal East district to demonstrate against the killings.
In response to the unrest the state government declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Saturday.
Bodies found on Friday night'
The bodies were identified as a woman and two children.
Three bodies of a woman and two children suspected to be of six persons missing from Jiribam district were found near the confluence of Jiri river and Barak river along the Manipur-Assam border on Friday
The bodies were transported to Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) in Assam and placed in the morgue pending autopsies.
Three women and three children residing in a relief camp have been missing since Monday's gunfight between security forces and militants in Jiribam district.
