Assam / Guwahati :

Pranav Nair, a 22-year-old student at IIT Guwahati, has defied the odds of cerebral palsy to realize his ambition of working with tech giant Google. Despite facing numerous challenges, his determination and support from family and faculty propelled him toward success.

Pranav's journey began with childhood obstacles in education due to his condition. However, with unwavering support from his parents, he pursued mainstream schooling and eventually enrolled in computer engineering at IIT Guwahati, leading to a coveted placement at Google.

''As a child, my struggle mainly revolved around two fronts - the first was academic as I faced a lot of hassles in logistics. While my parents believed firmly that I attained education at a mainstream school, most schools were reluctant to give admission to a student like me for various reasons - for instance, they may have to shift classrooms to the ground floor, install elevators, or provide certain additional support to me,'' he said.

"Besides, being in a wheelchair makes traveling not so easy as I always had to depend on someone and specific modes of transport which used to add to my burden of studies," Pranav added.

Following his schooling in Muscat, Oman, Pranav initially aspired to pursue a medical career. However, recognizing the importance of a path unimpeded by physical limitations, his parents encouraged him to explore alternatives where his potential could flourish.

Pranav's journey significantly turned when his passion for computers ignited a new career aspiration. Opting to pursue software engineering, he secured admission to an IIT in Computer Science and Engineering, ranking 27th in the Person with Disability (PWD) category.

Reflecting on his transformation, Pranav acknowledges the transformative power of technology in enhancing his life's quality and fulfillment. With a vision to leverage technology for societal inclusivity, he aspires to contribute towards creating a more accessible and welcoming world for all individuals.

Transition to IIT Guwahati:

Pranav acknowledges the immense role played by his parents in nurturing his aspirations and providing a conducive environment for growth. His transition from aspiring doctor to software engineer was influenced by his passion for computers and the encouragement of his parents.

Leveraging Technology for Inclusivity:

Pranav credits technology for simplifying his life and aims to leverage it to create a more inclusive society. Despite initial challenges, his experience at IIT Guwahati proved transformative, offering him opportunities for personal and professional development.

Securing a Future at Google:

Supported by his peers and seniors, Pranav secured internships with Google, culminating in a Pre-Placement Offer (PPO) at the company's Bengaluru office. His preparation, both online and through practical experience, equipped him to meet corporate expectations.

"Consistent preparation online on various coding platforms along with mock interview and internship experiences in startup companies too helped me to be more prepared and aware of the corporate expectations," he said.

Looking ahead, Pranav is determined to contribute to society through his career in software and hopes for an inclusive work environment that values his abilities over disabilities. His story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the limitless possibilities of human potential.
