Nike has introduced its first nearly fully 3D-printed shoe the Air Max 1000 at the ComplexCon event in Las Vegas. Developed in partnership with 3D-printing expertZellerfeld this innovative footwear marks a significant leap in manufacturing technology. However despite the buzz around its debut Nike has yet

The Air Max 1000 is a bold evolution of Nike's iconic Air Max 1, which first launched in 1987 as the brand's first shoe featuring a visible air cushion in the heel. This signature feature remains a part of the new design though the air cushion itself is the only component not produced via 3D printing. The rest of the shoe is constructed using a single flexible material that varies in density and texture

The upper portion of the shoe is flexible and laceless while the outsole provides a firmer structure for stability. Thanks to 3D printing the Air Max 1000 incorporates intricate contours and details that were previously unattainable through traditional manufacturing methods.

The Air Max 1000 initially made its debut in a striking red colourway before expanding to include additional colours like orange, blue black, white and a black model with a green air cushion.

The Air Max 1000 is part of an emerging trend of using 3D printing in footwearproduction a space Nike has been exploring for some time. In 2017 Nike introduced the VaporFly Elite Flyprint which featured a 3D-printed textile upper designed to improve athletic performance. Other sportswear brands including Adidas are also using 3D

With the introduction of the Air Max 1000 Nike is paving the way for future footwear designs that push the boundaries of innovation and manufacturing technology. Whether or not the Air Max 1000 will be made available to the wider public it has certainly captured the attention of sneaker enthusiasts and industry insiders alike.
