In today’s competitive world pursuing higher education is crucial for securing a comfortable career. While many students choose to continue their studies in their home country, an increasing number are opting to study abroad. The US, UK Canada, Australia and Germany have long been popular destinations for international students however several of these countries have started tightening their immigration policies

According to the official website of Immigration New Zealand there have been notable changes in the eligibility criteria for the Post Study Work Visa (PSWV). For example students who complete a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) for 30 weeks and immediately progress to a Master's degree but were not enrolled in the Master's

Similarly if a student completes a qualification that qualifies for a Post Study Work Visa and immediately advances to a higher-level qualification they will have 12 months from the end date of their initial student visa to apply for a PSWV

To be eligible for a 3-year post-study work visa students must complete at least 30 weeks of full-time study in New Zealand while enrolled in a Master's degree.

Immigration New Zealand has also updated the list of qualifications eligible for a post study work visa. Key changes include:

Applicants qualifying to teach in secondary schools no longer need a Bachelor's degree specializing in science, mathematics, technology or Pacific languages.

Graduates with a diploma and those meeting the registration requirements of the Training Council can now apply for a PSWV to work as a primary or intermediate school teacher.

The New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Level 6) with a strand in Mechanical Engineering has been added making mechanical engineering technicians eligible for a Post Study Work Visa.
