New Delhi World Book Fair 2024

India / New Delhi :

The New Delhi World Book Fair 2024 kicked off with a grand inauguration by Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, at Bharat Mandapam on February 10, 2024. Pradhan emphasized the significance of books as intellectual assets and highlighted the growing ethos of e-learning and e-reading. The launch of the National Digital Libraries for All, a project announced in the Budget 2023-34, marked a major milestone in democratizing access to knowledge across India's diverse linguistic landscape. Joining Pradhan on the stage were distinguished guests including Saleh bin Eid Al-Husseini, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to India, Annapurna Devi, Hon’ble Minister of State for Education, and key officials from the education sector.

A highlight of the inauguration was the unveiling of the innovative e-learning platform, 'Jaadui Pitara,' aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This platform, comprising puzzles, riddles, and stories, aims to revolutionize early childhood education with inclusive and informative content translated into 22 languages using Artificial Intelligence (AI). Additionally, special modules aligned with NEP 2020, teaching-learning resources, and subject-specific modules were introduced, reflecting a commitment to educational excellence.

The event also witnessed the launch of resources promoting G20 initiatives, Viksit Bharat, and Nari Shakti Vandan, underscoring India's dedication to social development and empowerment. Notable publications unveiled include the "Igniting Collective Goodness Mann ki Baat @100" anthology, featuring 100 episodes of the popular radio show, and four new titles under the "Creating Intellectual Heritage" project by NBT-India. Furthermore, the Hindi and English Braille editions of the book "Exam Warriors," authored by the Prime Minister, were released, emphasizing inclusivity in education.

Themed around 'Multilingual India: A Living Tradition (Bahubhashi Bharat: Ek Jeevant Parampara),' the New Delhi World Book Fair 2024 celebrates India's rich linguistic diversity. The fair serves as a platform for cultural exchange and literary discourse, with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia honored as the Guest Country, fostering bilateral ties and mutual understanding.

Prof. Milind Sudhakar Marathe, Chairman, NBT-India, highlighted the role of the fair in promoting intellectual dialogue and readership. He emphasized the unity inherent in India's linguistic diversity, reflecting the theme of the event.

Mr. Saleh bin Eid Al-Husseini, Hon’ble Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to India, reiterated the commitment to strengthen ties between the two nations, drawing parallels between India's cultural unity and Saudi Arabia's vision for the future.

With over 3000 attendees, including dignitaries, authors, publishers, and avid readers, the inaugural session set the stage for nine days of literary festivities. Visitors can explore themed pavilions, photo exhibitions, and engage in literary dialogues until February 18, 2024, at Halls 1 to 5, Pragati Maidan. Entry is free for children in school uniform, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals, with tickets available online and at select Metro Stations.
