Nagpur: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company
Limited (MSEDCL) is not only losing money as a result of electricity theft; it is also harming the distribution infrastructure.
In such a situation, numerous actions have been launched at various levels to combat electricity theft. In this regard, MSEDCL has urged citizens to report instances of electricity theft. The identities of those involved will be with held, and they will get 10% of the total theft.
According to MSEDCL, this programme will also apply to
MSEDCL personnel who provide information regarding electricity theft occurring outside of their work area. Previously the prize for reporting electricity theft was merely 1,000. There was no response to the plan in such a case. It has now been determined to pay 10% of the projected amount of electricity theft. The executive engineer has the authority to authorise awards up to 50,000 under this provision. The superintendent engineer has the authority to authorise prizes in excess of one lakh rupees.
The chief engineer has the right to pay more than this amount. The director (vigilance and security) has been given entire authority in this contextMSEDCL has said unequivocally that the identity of the person who exposed the electricity theft will be kept private.
The prize money will be distributed via net banking.
