Muslims in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Jammu Kashmir, and Ladakh Celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with Fervor and Joy

India :

Muslims across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Jammu Kashmir, and Ladakh are joyously celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the culmination of the month-long Ramadan fasting period. From offering prayers at mosques to indulging in festive meals and exchanging warm greetings, the atmosphere is filled with joy and camaraderie.

In Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, hundreds of Muslims gathered at mosques and open prayer grounds to offer the Eid prayer, known as 'namaz,' in unison. Similarly, in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, a large number of people congregated at mosques to celebrate the occasion with prayers and devotion.

The spirit of Eid was also evident in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, where mass prayers were held to mark the auspicious day.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Muslims began their day with morning prayers to commemorate Eid-ul-Fitr. The local markets bustled with activity as people flocked to purchase sweets and delicacies for the festive occasion.

A variety of traditional Eid desserts, including gulab jamun, rasgulla, and seviyan, were prepared to satisfy the sweet cravings of celebrants. Additionally, savory snacks such as namkeens were in high demand to complement the festive feasting.

Visuals from markets showcased the vibrant atmosphere as people shopped for Eid essentials, including dates halwa, shahi tukda, kesar phirni, and filled cookies. Shops and markets in prominent areas were adorned with decorations, adding to the festive ambiance.

The celebration of Eid was determined by the sighting of the crescent moon, with Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh confirming the festival on Wednesday based on moon sighting reports. However, in other parts of the country such as Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Delhi, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on April 11 due to the moon not being sighted on April 9.

Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali urged people to avoid offering prayers on roads and encouraged them to donate to the needy, emphasizing the importance of compassion and charity during Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid-ul-Fitr holds immense significance for Muslims worldwide, symbolizing the end of Ramadan fasting and the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The observance of the moon sighting tradition adds to the cultural richness of the festival, which is celebrated with fervor and unity across diverse communities.
