Maharashtra / Mumbai :

The Mumbai Sessions Court has extended interim protection from arrest to lawyer Shekhar Jagtap, who faces accusations of forging documents to falsely represent himself as a special public prosecutor in cases against a builder during the Maha Vikas Aghadi administration in Maharashtra.

This decision echoes a similar grant of protection to Maharashtra Joint Secretary Kishor Bhalerao by the same court.

Additional Sessions Judge Swapnil Tawshikar, in granting the relief, highlighted the necessity of shielding Jagtap until statements from ministers at the state secretariat are recorded by the investigating officer.

The court has scheduled a revisit of Jagtap's anticipatory bail plea for March 14, affirming his right to pursue legal recourse within the judicial system.

The allegations against Jagtap stem from a complaint lodged by builder Sanjay Punamiya, who asserts that Jagtap falsely presented himself as a special public prosecutor in court proceedings related to significant cases.

Punamiya alleges that Jagtap's actions obstructed investigations and served to assist the builder and other implicated parties.

The state home department clarified Jagtap's legitimate appointment as a special public prosecutor for specific cases, refuting Jagtap's broader claims and highlighting the disparity between Jagtap's representations and official records.

Jagtap faces accusations of deceiving the court and government authorities by assuming the role of a special public prosecutor through the submission of forged documents.

As the legal proceedings unfold, Jagtap's case underscores the complexities surrounding legal representation and the potential consequences of alleged misconduct within the legal system.
