Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has unveiled "ADVANTA(I)GE INDIA," an ambitious initiative aimed at equipping 2 million Indian students, job seekers, and women with essential artificial intelligence (AI) skills by the year 2025. The ADVANTA(I)GE INDIA initiative aims to address the pressing need for digital upskilling in India, as highlighted by a report by PwC, which revealed significant demand for digital skills among Indian employees. Microsoft's comprehensive training programs will cater to individuals across social strata, gender, and income levels, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility to AI education.
As part of the initiative, Microsoft plans to collaborate with 10 Indian state governments to provide basic and advanced AI training to 500,000 students and job seekers in 100 rural educational institutions. This effort builds upon existing collaborations with the Indian Ministry focused on training Gen Z in digital and cybersecurity skills, furthering Microsoft's commitment to empowering India's youth with future-ready skills.
Nadella's announcement supplements Microsoft's earlier pledge to train 100,000 Indian developers in Azure AI usage, solution deployment, and coding proficiency. The ADVANTA(I)GE INDIA initiative encompasses two levels of training, focusing on AI application and problem-solving skills, and is open to individuals of all backgrounds and expertise levels.
Moreover, Microsoft aims to empower women in rural areas and Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities by deploying 5,000 instructors at higher education institutions to train 100,000 women in AI skills. Additionally, the company intends to extend AI training to 400,000 students in remote, tribal, and agrarian regions through three global initiatives.
