Maruti Suzuki has unveiled an additional assembly line at its Manesar plant, enhancing the facility’s overall production capability by an impressive 1 lakh units annually. The expansion comes as part of the company's commitment to the Government of India's 'Make in India' initiative and aims to address the increasing demand for its vehicles.

The new assembly line, inaugurated by Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, marks a significant milestone in the company's manufacturing journey. With a focus on manufacturing the popular Ertiga MPV initially, the expanded capacity is expected to cater to the growing market demand and alleviate the extended waiting periods faced by customers.

Mr. Takeuchi emphasized Maruti Suzuki's dedication to nearly doubling its capacity to 4 million vehicles per annum over the next 7-8 years. This capacity addition of 100,000 vehicles per year is a crucial step towards achieving this goal and will enhance the company's overall capability to manufacture up to 23.5 lakh units annually.

Since its inception in January 2007, the Manesar production facility has been pivotal in Maruti Suzuki's manufacturing prowess. With continuous expansions over the years, including the addition of Plant B in 2011 and Plant C in 2013, the facility has played a crucial role in meeting the growing demand for Maruti Suzuki vehicles.

With the inauguration of the new assembly line, Maruti Suzuki aims to address the soaring demand for the Ertiga MPV, which constituted nearly one-third of the company's impressive 2 lakh plus open bookings as of December 2023. Buyers can expect a reduction in waiting times for the Ertiga MPV in the upcoming months, with the ramping up of production facilitated by the new assembly line.
