India / Bengaluru :
A low-intensity blast" target="_blank">bomb blast at Bengaluru's Rameshwaram Cafe on Friday left 10 people injured, triggering investigations and invoking stringent UAPA provisions by the Karnataka government. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) fitted with a timer inside a bag placed by a man inside the cafe.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated that the accused, identified on CCTV, is approximately 28 to 30 years old. The suspect, after taking a coupon for Rava Idli, left the cafe without consuming anything, leaving behind a bag allegedly containing the IED.
Police investigations revealed no additional IEDs were found besides the one in the bag, and the man who left the bag is being questioned. CM Siddaramaiah emphasized that it's unclear if the incident was a terrorist act, and investigations are ongoing.
Opposition BJP demanded a detailed probe into the matter, criticizing the government's handling of such crimes. BJP state president B Y Vijayendra highlighted the government's "callousness" and the failure of police intelligence.
Initially suspected to be a gas leak, the Fire department ruled out the possibility, confirming the presence of a bag at the blast site. Investigations into the incident continue as authorities work to ascertain the motive behind the blast and ensure public safety.
