Hubballi: The Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commission is taking up various initiatives to prevent crimes and create awareness against drugs. As part of the campaign the police have launched an initiative targeting drivers who use mobile phones while driving.
Police commissioner N Shashikumar told TOI that they received many complaints from the public that a number of bike riders, auto-rickshaw, car and other vehicle drivers are using mobile phones while riding or driving.
As a pilot initiative we launched the initiative at three points in Hubballi on Saturday night. Our personnel clicked photos of drivers using mobiles while driving and registered over 30 cases. The drive will continue under the leadership of DCP Crime and Traffic and strict action will be taken against such violat
Raveesh CR DCP Crime and Traffic said an awareness rally was conducted under the leadership of the Police Commissioner at Keshwapur Town Sub-Urban and Vidyanagar police stations.
We booked cases against over 200 vehicles for various violations and seized 102 vehicles for severe violations. Though talking over the mobile phone while driving is a visible offence some drivers are using it under their helmet and in their cars by closing windows. We will catch and prosecute them.
