Maharashtra / Mumbai :
In a concerning turn of events, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a high-level inquiry into a recent firing incident in Ulhasnagar involving BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad and local Shiv Sena leader Mahesh Gaikwad. The incident occurred inside a police station in Thane district on Friday night and is said to be related to a land dispute.
Fadnavis, deeming the incident as "serious," stated, “The incident is serious, and I have asked the DGP (director general of police) to hold a high-level inquiry. Everyone is equal before the law irrespective of their political affiliations.” The inquiry aims to uncover the circumstances that led to the BJP MLA opening fire on the Shiv Sena chief and will be conducted by the director general of police.
State BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule affirmed that appropriate action will be taken against Ganpat Gaikwad if he is found guilty. The BJP MLA, in a statement to the news channel 'Zee24taas' before his arrest, justified his actions, claiming that he used the firearm to protect his son, who was allegedly being assaulted by the Sena leader’s associates at the police station.
Ganpat Gaikwad also accused Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of attempting to establish a "kingdom of criminals" in Maharashtra. He further alleged that the Chief Minister's son, Kalyan MP Shrikant Shinde, was taking credit for his work and putting up boards to that effect. The BJP MLA asserted that he had informed his seniors about the violence against his leaders by these individuals on multiple occasions.
As the investigation unfolds, the political ramifications of this incident are likely to intensify, raising questions about law and order and political rivalries within the state. The public awaits further developments as the high-level inquiry aims to bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding the Ulhasnagar firing incident.
