When Rishabh Pant Rishabh Panthad that horrorcar accident in December 2022 India's former coach Ravi Shastri Ravi Shastriwas more worried about the wicketkeeper-batsman's full recovery to lead a normal life than play cricket again.

But his journey from that day to winning the T20 World Cup and now ready for another Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia is nothing short of a miracle.

Talking about Pant's miraculous recovery during his interaction with news.com.au Shastri recalled the sight of Pant soon after the accident with his body bearing numerous stitches and scars and said it was deeply distressing for

“Honestly if you had seen him you wouldn't have given him a hope in hell to play cricket again," he said.

The crash happened two years ago when his vehicle collided with a median strip on the highway at high speed causing it to overturn and catch fire.

His life was saved by the timely intervention of good Samaritans notably Susheel Kumar who works as a Haryana Roadways driver. Kumar rescued Pant from the burning vehicle.

In early 2023 Pant's return to cricket appeared highly improbable the primary concern was his basic mobility with playing cricket an unrealistic goal.

In 2024 Pant completed a remarkable recovery marking his comeback to competitive cricket with the Indian Premier League and subsequently returning to the Indian squad winning the T20 World Cup and then re-establishing his essential role as wicketkeeper-batsman in Test

To simply recover and play cricket was a miracle Shastri said. "To then go on and play in a World Cup-winning team and be part of the Test team is a truly remarkable achievement.

When you talk to him now the respect he has for the game is even more. He was nowhere. Suddenly he is back and he values that. I have seen him work really, really hard over the past few months to get into the shape he is to play Test cricket

Pant's memorable winning knock of 89 not out during the BGT in 2021 stands as one of the most iconic moments in Indian cricket history and he is ready to do everything it takes to help India retain the trophy.
