Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi, aged 86, passed away on Friday morning due to age-related health complications. He had been admitted to Hinduja Hospital on February 21 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Joshi served as the chief minister of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999, becoming the first leader from the undivided Shiv Sena to hold the top post in the state. He played a significant role in shaping the state's political landscape during his tenure.
Apart from his role as chief minister, Joshi also had a distinguished parliamentary career. He was elected as a Member of Parliament and served as the Lok Sabha Speaker from 2002 to 2004 during the Vajpayee government's tenure.
The funeral proceedings for Manohar Joshi are scheduled to take place later in the day at Dadar Shivaji Park Crematorium, with full state honours. His passing marks the end of an era in Maharashtra politics, leaving behind a legacy of service and leadership.
