India / Manipur :

The Manipur police have filed a FIR against members of the Assam Rifles, accusing them of interfering with a police operation to catch armed criminals responsible for a triple homicide in Kwakta. The incident, which happened on August 5, got worse after a video of a standoff between Manipur police officials and Assam Rifles members appeared on social media. While the Assam Rifles officer justifies his conduct as being justified by duty, the footage shows the police accusing the Assam Rifles of interfering with their pursuit.

According to the Manipur police FIR, a squad lead by the superintendent of police for Bishnupur and other officials conducted a search operation in Kwakta ward 8 on Pholjang Road in order to capture "Kuki militants" thought to be involved in the earlier triple killing. The police squad said that they were prevented from carrying out their legal job when members of the 9 Assam Rifles stopped their Casper vehicle in the middle of the road close to Kutub Wali Masjid. According to the FIR, this hindrance made it possible for the alleged Kuki insurgents to flee.

At approximately three in the morning on Saturday, three men were shot dead and their corpses were dismembered in Kwakta ward 8. Numerous Meitei organizations protested this tragedy and demanded that the Assam Rifles be withdrawn from Manipur. In dealing with Meitei women demonstrators, Assam Rifles was also charged by women's organizations of bigotry and overuse of force.

As a result, civil police and CRPF men took the place of Assam Rifles soldiers at a certain checkpoint in Manipur between Bishnupur and Kangvai. Despite the fact that the directive omitted a justification, it is thought to be a response to the rising tensions.

At least 160 people have perished as a consequence of ethnic fighting between Meiteis and Kukis. The initial fights broke out on May 3 in Churachandpur town as a result of Kuki factions objecting to a proposed modification to the state's reservation matrix that would have given the Meitei population scheduled tribe (ST) status. The violence exposed entrenched ethnic tensions and forced the displacement of several inhabitants, creating a challenging security environment

Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, SSB, and ITBP are among the paramilitary units present with the Indian Army in an effort to restore normality under the direction of a single interagency command headed by Kuldiep Singh, the government of Manipur's security adviser.
