Delhi-NCR experienced light rainfall on Saturday morning, accompanied by cloudy skies, which brought down the temperature slightly. This weather phenomenon is attributed to a Western Disturbance along with a cyclonic circulation over northwest Afghanistan and nearby areas, influencing the weather pattern in the region.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rain or snow at secluded places over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Additionally, hail is expected at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
According to IMD, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall/snowfall is likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad & Himachal Pradesh on 01st & 02nd March, with isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall expected over Uttarakhand on the same days. Punjab may experience isolated heavy rainfall on 02nd March 2024.
The western Himalayan region is anticipated to receive “fairly widespread to widespread” light to moderate rainfall until March 3 in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh. Punjab may experience isolated heavy rainfall today.
In addition to the rainfall forecast, IMD predicts a warmer summer and more heatwave days this year due to El Nino conditions, expected to continue at least until May. The country is likely to record above-normal rainfall in March, with more heatwave days than normal predicted over northeast peninsular India, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, north interior Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Odisha.
