Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Remanded to Judicial Custody Till April 15th in Money Laundering Case
India / New Delhi :
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been ordered into judicial custody until April 15th by the Rouse Avenue Court in connection with an alleged money laundering case linked to the Delhi Excise Policy scam. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) sought fifteen days of judicial custody for Kejriwal, citing his non-cooperation during interrogation.
Representing the ED, ASG SV Raju informed the court that Kejriwal's non-cooperative behavior necessitates further interrogation. Raju stated that additional time is required to confront Kejriwal with others involved in the case and to record statements from some AAP Goa candidates.
The ED alleges that Kejriwal played a pivotal role in the case, acting as the key conspirator. They claim that he received substantial kickbacks from the 'South Group' in exchange for formulating excise policies that favored the group. Furthermore, the ED alleges that these kickback funds were utilized for elections in Punjab and Goa.
Kejriwal was presented before the Rouse Avenue Court as his custody expired on Monday. Present at the hearing were his wife Sunita, along with his two children, and key cabinet colleagues including Saurabh Bhardwaj, Atishi, and Gopal Rai.
The case has garnered significant attention, with many closely following the developments as they unfold. Kejriwal's judicial custody marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities linked to the Delhi Excise Policy, highlighting the complexities and challenges faced by authorities in combating corruption.
