"Consumer Court Orders Railway to Compensate Passenger Rs 60,000 for Train Delay"
India :
In a significant ruling, the Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed Southern Railway to compensate Karthik Mohan, Deputy Manager at Bosch India Pvt., for the inconveniences caused due to a 13- hour delay of the Alleppey Express.
Karthik had booked a ticket on the express to attend an important company meeting in Chennai. However, the prolonged delay of the train led to him missing the crucial event, resulting in substantial disappointment and loss.
The commission wasted no time in ordering the railway to pay Rs.
60,000 as compensation to address the hardships faced by the passenger. In its defense, the railway argued that the passenger failed to inform them about the purpose of the journey, which would have enabled them to take necessary precautions. However, the court dismissed this argument, holding the railway accountable for the extended delay and its consequences.
