In a firm response to India's recent troop deployment along the border, China emphasized its commitment to peace and tranquility in the region, urging India to refrain from actions that escalate tensions.
During a regular press briefing on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning addressed concerns regarding India's strengthening of military deployment along the border with China. He stated, "India's move of strengthening military deployment along the border with China is counterproductive to the two countries' efforts to ease the situation at the border and not conducive to safeguarding peace and tranquility of the border areas."
The response from Beijing came following reports indicating India's deployment of approximately 10,000 new troops along the border. Mao Ning emphasized that such actions by India are not conducive to peace and tranquility and do not align with the common understandings reached by both countries on deescalating tensions in the border areas.
India and China have been embroiled in a military stand-off for nearly four years, with tensions escalating at friction points in eastern Ladakh in 2020. However, efforts to defuse tensions have been ongoing, with both countries holding the 21st round of Corps Commander level meeting in February this year.
During the meeting, held at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point, discussions focused on achieving complete disengagement in the remaining areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the importance of restoring peace and tranquility in the India-China border areas through diplomatic and military channels.
Both sides agreed to maintain communication and commit to peace and tranquility on the ground in the border areas, reaffirming their commitment to resolving disputes through dialogue and cooperation.
