Nagpur: The unitary status granted to the Laxminarayan Innovation Technology University may have created an opportunity for students desirous of higher studies but has also simultaneously deprived the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) of some key departments under its jurisdiction thereby

creating a "backlog"

• Senate members have now demanded a

chemical technology department under the RTMNU.

A senior senate member and practicing lawyer Mohan Vajpayee said, a long pending demand of giving autonomy to Laxminarayan Institute of Technology has been fulfilled. However, the RTMNU has lost a premier institute. The University would not be able to impart chemical technology courses as these courses were exclusively available with erstwhile LIT. The unitary status of LITU will allow the students from all over the state to compete for admissionBut the University will not be able to provide these courses to the students of Nagpur region.
