Ganguly, a TMC leader from Behala, was taken into custody on Monday after prolonged questioning by CBI officers at the agency's city office.
According to an official the CBI has gathered evidence linking Ganguly to the scam including proof of his involvement in monetary transactions.
During previous searches at his residence in Behala the agency seized several bank-related documents relevant to the case.
Ganguly has been closely associated with Partha Chatterjee and reportedly remained uncooperative during his interrogation.
The Enforcement Directorate also questioned Ganguly and conducted searches at his residence as part of the ongoing probe into the scandal.
