Bryar (File photo)Bob Bryar, former drummer for the American rock band My Chemical Romance (MCR), died at his Tennessee home at the age of 44.

Born in Chicago Illinois Bob Bryar pursued sound engineering studies at the University of Florida.

His connection with the band began in 2004 while working as a sound engineer for a supporting act during an MCR tour.

Following their acquaintance he took over as drummer from Matt Pelissier.

During his tenure the band produced two albums.

In 2006 he experienced severe third-degree burns during a music video shoot which subsequently developed into an infection.

The burn injuries led to numerous medical complications requiring hospitalisation for a staph infection.

Although the band cancelled several performances during his recovery they commenced a world tour in February 2007.

Wrist problems began affecting Bryar by November necessitating a temporary replacement though he returned for the final phase of the tour in early 2008.

The band announced Bryar's departure in 2010 describing it as a "painful decision".

Their fourth studio album released afterwards features Bryar's writing contributions on five tracks.

In 2021 he formally withdrew from the music industry selling his band memorabilia to support various animal charities.

He explained to ABC Audio: "I have too many wrist issues... it's time for something new."

MCR was disbanded in 2013 later reforming in 2019.

A US stadium tour is scheduled for 2025.
