India / New Delhi :

The recent announcement of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) candidate list for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections has sparked discussions with notable inclusions and exclusions. Among the 195 candidates listed, Abdul Salam stands out as the sole Muslim candidate fielded by the BJP, set to contest from Malappuram, Kerala.

Abdul Salam, a former Vice-Chancellor of Calicut University, hails from Tirur, Kerala, and boasts an impressive academic and professional background. With significant contributions in Biological Sciences, he has published numerous research papers, review articles, and books. Joining the BJP in 2019, he previously contested in the 2021 Kerala assembly elections from the Nemom constituency. With a disclosed net worth of ₹6.47 crore and no reported criminal cases, Abdul Salam presents a credible candidacy.

The BJP's list for Kerala includes 12 candidates out of the state's 20 Lok Sabha seats, featuring renowned figures like Suresh Gopi, Anil Antony, and MT Ramesh. However, the absence of K Surendran, BJP Kerala State Unit Chief, from the list has raised eyebrows, hinting at his likely abstention from the electoral fray.

Nationwide, the BJP's candidate list reflects strategic distribution, with Uttar Pradesh leading with 51 nominations, followed by West Bengal with 20 candidates. Other states like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Telangana, Assam, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh also feature prominently in the lineup.

Abdul Salam's candidacy, along with other notable inclusions and exclusions, underscores the BJP's strategic approach in its bid for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
