The 19-member squad for the prestigious T-20 trophy was announced by theUttar Pradesh Cricket Association(UPCA). Uttar Pradesh have been placed in Group C and will play all their matches in Mumbai. They will face Delhi in their opening

Other teams in the group include Arunachal Pradesh Himachal Pradesh Delhi Haryana Manipur Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand.

Uttar Pradesh won their first trophy under Suresh Raina captaincy in 2015-2016 at Wankhede and finished runners-up in the 2013-2014 season under Akshdeep Nath.

The newly formed UPCA selection committee led by Praveen Kumar has shown faith in Bhuvneshwar Kumar due to his rich experience in T20 cricket. He has taken 299 wickets in 286 T20 matches with 90 wickets in 86 T20 internationals.

The former India cricketer Suresh Raina exuded confidence in the team's strength and said that Bhuvneshwar's role in the tournament would be crucial.

When UP secured their only SMA Trophy under me the matches were held at Wankhede. I am optimistic that we will clinch the trophy this time as well. Sameer Rizvi Madhav Kaushik Rinku Singh and Swastik Chikara will be our strength and they harmonise splendidly

In addition seasoned players Piyush Chawla Yash Dayal Aaqib Khan and Mohsin Khan have performed admirably.

I think when local players play for their franchise or state that brings an extra motivation to do well and that is what we've seen in CSK and UP he said.

When players represent their state they bring a distinctive quality. When we played wearing Sahara jersey it was an honour. Sahara Shri and Abhijit Sarkar provided tremendous support to players he said.
