Air India will deploy Vistara's narrow-body Airbus A320s on five key metro-to-metro routes from Dec 1 with business,premium economy and economy class cabins. These routes have a significant demand for premium class travel.
These metro flights of Air India will operate with AI-prefixed four-digit flight numbers starting with 2 like AI-2999 for a Delhi-Mumbai service. This is a change from the earlier announcement which had said passengers who booked Vistara flights for travel after thew merger date of November 12 will get the same aircraft, product and service for a few months
Air India says it will “optimise” flight schedules so that departures are spread throughout the day without reducing frequency. AI now offers more than 1,000 weekly flights (round trips) on these key routes: 56x daily on Delhi-Mumbai, 36x daily on Delhi-Bengaluru, 24x daily on Delhi-Hyderabad, 22x daily on Mumbai-Bengal
AI MD & CEO Campbell Wilson said: “The merger of Vistara into Air India has unlocked many new opportunities to improve our customer offering. By combining the strengths of both full-service carriers we are able to consolidate our best narrowbody offering on routes where there is desire for a high-frequency, full-service product.
Air India’s aircraft will offer 8 business, 24 premium economy and 132 economy class seats on five key metro-metro routes.
Air India will continue to operate one widebody flight between Delhi and Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad using its Boeing 777 or Airbus A350 aircraft which will have three-digit flight numbers.
